Most of us have joined leap.club because we know that a strong professional network is really valuable and we want to grow ours. But getting started can still feel a little hard — often because you don’t know how to find someone to superconnect with.
The truth is, it’s really not hard, and that’s why I decided to write this short post. Below are 4 easy ways to find someone to superconnect with. Give it a try!
1. Make a post on the feed
Making a post on the feed is a great way to find people to superconnect with. You can say a little more about yourself and what kind of people you’re looking to connect with. If you have a very specific topic you want to connect around, you can also mention that.
Here are some real examples:
Note: There are some community guidelines to help you post like a star. Check it out if you haven’t already.
2. Join a clubhouse
Clubhouses are a fairly new feature on leap.club, and it’s become a great place to meet people with similar interests, questions or backgrounds.
If you haven’t already, you should definitely join 2–3 clubhouses that are relevant to you. They’re buzzing with conversation and you’ll quickly find people to connect with. It’s also a good idea to actively engage in a clubhouse, rather than being a silent observer of conversations. That way, others will get to know you and even realise you’re someone they want to have in their network.
Below are some examples of the connections happening on clubhouses:
Are you keen to start your own clubhouse? Go for it! And if you need some help or just want to brainstorm, reach out to me — I’m always happy to chat.
3. Browse the member directories
Last but not least are the member directories — that’s where all fellow-members are listed under different categories: media, design, e-commerce, product & tech, social impact, founders… the list goes on and on!
The best way to approach this is to put aside 5–10 minutes every now and then. That will allow you to browse and your leisure and explore all the great women you can connect with. Starting with your own industry might be easiest, and then move on to industries you’re interested in.
In the middle of writing this article, I had a superconnect call scheduled with Shaina Ahluwalia. She joined leap.club earlier this month, and she really can’t get enough of it! She told me that browsing member directories was how she discovered her first few superconnects. She decided to focus specifically on the “new” category, as she figured that new members (like herself) might be very keen to connect and will be delighted if someone reaches out. Turns out, she was right!
4. Ask for recommendations
Once you start superconnecting, it can become very easy to find other relevant people. Just ask your new connection for recommendations.
This is a tip I got from Nishitha Ajayakumar about 3 months ago. Here’s how she does it:
“When I superconnect with someone, I always ask them this question: Is there someone you think I should superconnect with? It’s a nice way to close out the first conversation you have with them, and I’ve found the recommendations always helpful.”
I hope these tips will help you get started!
If you’re new to networking, there’s also one more tip I want to share: Don’t overthink it. Just send your first superconnect, and schedule a chat with someone. This is a great and welcoming community. You’ll ease into networking very fast, and you’ll discover that it’s fun, interesting, and surprisingly easy. 🙂
